Oscar, a hound mix puppy, was found roaming the streets of Schaghticoke on February 23, 2012. His little puppy body was emaciated. He was so fearful that he would submit and urinate in the presence of any new person. His legs were underdeveloped and his first time in the play yard he froze, unsure of what to do. Two weeks later, after patient and gentle doting from the staff, Oscar learned that people can be good.
March 7th – Oscar made his first venture toward strangers in search of affection and enjoyed head scratches and treats without urinating. This came after a little dog therapy from Fina, a small Pug / Jack Russell mix who had Oscar playing chase and wagging his tail.
March 9th – Oscar showed signs of real excitement as his favorite people approach. When his tail wags, his butt wiggles with it, and his eyes are now smiling.
April 12th – Oscar went to a fundraiser walk for some terrific socialization. Lori Harris, Oscar’s handler that day, says, “He was amazing – he wasn’t fearful at all and he had quite the eye for the ladies (both human and 4-legged).”
These are tremendous milestones for a puppy with a terrifying start.
Oscar has become the happy puppy he was meant to be. This darling soul with the most beautiful brown eyes could be the perfect dog for a kind, caring person like you.

Oscar seems to feel pretty comfortable here and is getting along well with my one laid back cat, Black. The other 2 cats are still checking him out; Jacob is studying him at a distance from the stairwell and Simon is avoiding him all together. We’ve been going out on nightly and morning walks and he seems to really enjoy this – unlike the car which he absolutely hates which I thought all dogs loved! He went to a family gathering on Sunday and people commented on how well behaved he was and the kids absolutely adored him.
Thanks again for bring us together….he really is a joy!
