People and their dogs were all smiles on Saturday for American Cancer Society’s 2012 Bark For Life™, a non-competitive one mile fundraiser walk around Cook Park in Colonie, New York.
As a Best Friend event sponsor, Dog House Adoptions proudly stood among an entire community of people, dogs, organizations and vendors honoring the care giving qualities of canine best friends to cancer survivors.
A record breaking 131 participants formed 31 teams raising $22,069.74 to help the American Cancer Society save lives, moving closer to the ultimate goal of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
From the Opening Ceremony and Blessing of the Pets forward, the morning’s events were chock full. In addition to the walk, there were competitions for best trick, best dressed human/canine couple in a Cinco de Mayo theme, and demonstrations by the Schenectady Chapter of Therapy Dogs International and the JAZZ Agility Club. Plenty of raffle winners, music, food and so much more made this doggy-dog affair great fun. The only cat on site was South Paw, mascot of the Tri-City Valley Cats minor league baseball team, but he received a warm welcome from dogs and children alike – regardless of difference in species.
